I've been working on the book launch for my latest novel, Cruel Messenger. I have read a lot of postings about book launches and am ready to make that crazy stab at a book launch party. Fortunately I am living in a small Iowa town that is very artsy and cultured. That is the good part. The bad part is that I recently moved here and have not had time to build the network of friends and contacts that would attend a launch party. What to do?
My thoughts are that I need to be a better marketer than I have been in the past. I also need to take the launches to where those who would be interested already go. I wanted to try it at the local library but they have restrictions on selling books. That is kind of bad for a book launch. First ideas are not always the best ideas. I moved the launch party to the local "cool" coffee house but am doing a reading at the library a few days before to get the word out. I am also teaching a writing class the week before to help build an audience. My intentions are to flood the small artsy downtown with posters and promises of give-aways. As a marketer I don't feel this is enough.
I am a member of two writing groups and plan to contact both about doing a 2nd and 3rd launch party with them. Those are my thoughts so far. I will keep you up to date as the details are solidified.
